A tie vote among Hazelwood city council members has left the Ward 8 council seat vacant until April of 2008.
After interviewing two candidates at a public meeting, seeking appointment to the seat, the vote of the council was tied.

New Florissant Landscaping Code Says Dumpsters Must be Screened-In

The Florissant City Council passed a bill that includes landscaping and screening criteria in the city code. City Building Commisioner John Morgan reviewed with the council some of the items covered in the bill at an executive session before the council meeting.

The Nina Rediscovers America; Docked in Alton Thru Sunday

An extraordinarily accurate replica of Columbus’ favorite ship is visiting historic Alton, Illinois until Oct. 28 and the public can tour the vessel. The Santa Clara, better known by the nickname “The Nina,” was researched and designed by maritime historian John Sarsfield and funded by the Columbus Foundation. The Nina is fashioned after the caravel, a trade ship known for its speed and maneuverability.

Mixed Emotions On Tony LaRussa’s Return

Big news in the world of baseball as Tony LaRussa is back for another two seasons of Cardinals Baseball as their manager.
Some people are disappointed but others are very happy. I am kind of a fence rider as I have seen Tony do some great things for this ball club and this town but I have also seen how Tony has been with the team and the media this past year. He wasn’t always the kindest and many players said that his negative attitude started to rub off on the players. This is what we don’t need.

Movie review: “Things We Lost In the Fire”

In “Things We Lost in the Fire” a young woman who lost the love of her life says, “It doesn’t get better, it gets different.” Two characters coping with the worst in their lives do manage to make it better, after titanic struggles to deal with the reality of just how different they and their lives will forever be.

CASH FOR CANS PROGRAM RUNS THROUGH OCTOBER
Florissant is participating in the national Cans for Cash recycling program. Mayor Robert Lowery stated that there are only two cities in Missouri participating.
