Area Schools, Churches, Residents Collect For The Needy & Troops

As every Christmas season, Several North County schools and groups are getting into the giving spirit this holiday season. Schools have held food drives, churches have adopted families, and service organizations have helped soldiers overseas.

Lowery Plans Walk of Honor Along rue St. Francois

Look out Joe Edwards, Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery has announced plans to develop a Walk of Honor for our city. The walk would be similar to the walk of fame in University City, with plaques placed in the sidewalk along St. Francois Street in Old Town, Lowery said.

Armstrong Students Are Turning Nickels Into Toys

Nickels, nickels and more nickels have found their way into classroom lessons at Armstrong Elementary in the Hazelwood School District.

All four third-grade classes at Armstrong have been collecting the coins since October for two reasons – as a math activity and as a social studies community service project. Each class has a goal of collecting 1,000 nickels as part of the math series, Investigations. They will use the money raised to buy toys to donate to Toys for Tots as community service.

American Red Cross Presents 6 Lifesaver Awards To Residents

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented Lifesaver Awards to residents from the St. Louis metropolitan area. A variety of citizens from all walks of life received honors for preparing themselves through training and then reaching out to save a life.
