Meeting in temporary quarters last week, the Florissant City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the lease purchase agreement for the city-owned property at 4500 Washington Street, which was the former Our Lady of Fatima convent.

Peart Wins 2 Titles, Flo Valley Track Has 5 All-Americans, 4 School Records
Florisssant Valley Community College Freshman Teneshia Peart returned from the NJCAA Championships (held at Eastern Illinois University) with national titles in the 60m, and 200m dashes. She won the 60 with a time of 7.41, and the 200 in 24.35, both school records.

The Ferguson-Florissant School District has announced selections for several key positions for the 2008-09 school year. They are:
Art McCoy, assistant superintendent for secondary education
Mick Willis, chief financial officer
Larry Larrew, assistant to the superintendent

Haz. Central Robohawks Advance in FIRST Robotics St. Louis Regional
The Hazelwood Central High School Robohawks advanced to the semifinal round at the 2008 For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics St. Louis Regional competition.
The team placed 21st out of 45 teams from around the Midwest in solo competition but other, higher-placed teams selected the Robohawks during the alliance portion of the contest. During the allied phase, Hazelwood Central’s team made it to the last semi-final round, falling just a few points shy of making it to the final match. This year also marked the first time that all three Hazelwood high schools participated in the regional robotics contest.

White Pelicans Are Migrating Through West Alton on the Mississippi Flyway
Hundreds of American White Pelicans are currently migrating through the region along the Mississippi Flyway. More than 900 pelicans have been counted at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO (just across the Clark Bridge), and the numbers are growing daily.
