East Middle School 6th Graders Helping Guide Future of North County Rec. Complex

More than 20 sixth grade students from Hazelwood East Middle School spent the better part of a day recently learning about local government and sharing ideas based on their own research to help leaders best serve the citizens of North St. Louis County.

Hazelwood East Hosting Special Olympics Track

Hazelwood East High School will sponsor its annual Special Olympics Track and Field Event on Friday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More than 170 athletes from 10 elementary schools are expected to participate.
Students will compete in the 50-meter, 100-meter, 200-meter and low-motor skills runs, softball throw, tennis ball throw, shot put, running long jump and a standing long jump. There will also be an Olympic Village, cookie decorating, face painting and a duck pond.

Ferguson-Florissant School District Names Jaime Otto Teacher of the Year

Jaime Otto, a fifth-grade teacher at Robinwood Elementary School, has been selected Ferguson-Florissant School District Teacher of the Year for 2008.

“Jaime’s creative professionalism and commitment to helping children reach their full potential puts into daily practice the district’s mission of high achievement for every student we serve,” said Superintendent Jeffrey R. Spiegel.

Ferg.-Florissant School District Board Names New Officers

The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education has selected the following officers for next year. They are: Les Lentz, president; Paul Schroeder, vice president; John F. Knowles, secretary; and Charles Henson, assistant secretary.

Hazelwood Central High Hosts Only Special Olympics Swim Meet in Area

Seeing busses pulling up in front of a school isn’t unusual, not even at 9:30 in the morning in the middle of the week.

But to see groups of students wearing the same white T-shirt with colorful lettering, milling about and chatting excitedly, and seeming as if they can’t wait to see who is going to get off of the bus is a bit unusual.
