West Wins Class 4 District Baseball, Central Girls Win District Soccer

Hazelwood West Baseball and Hazelwood Central Girls Soccer overcame rain postponements to win district titles last week.

Hazelwood West, playing at home last week, won Class Four, District Seven Baseball. West held off Hazelwood East, 8-5,scoring seven runs in the first three innings but held off a four-run sixth inning by East. West, then overcame a 7-2 deficit with a six-run seventh to win 8-7 over McCluer North, who scored five runs in the third inning.

North Tech Gets Class 2 Girls Track & Field State Runner Up Trophy

Two weeks after gaining their first Missouri State High School Activities Association district plaque, North County Technical High School picked up the first MSHSAA State athletic trophy for a St Louis County Special School District institution.

Old St. Ferdinand Shrine grounds

Several activities were located on Old St. Ferdinand Shrine grounds during the Valley of Flowers festival, May 2-4. The shrine and schoolhouse were open for tours and a book sale was held in the schoolhouse. Re-enactors set up camp giving visitors a taste of historical times and bread baked in the outdoor brick oven.

Hazelwood Studies Security Upgrades for Residents, Staff

The City of Hazelwood is currently evaluating a range of options to increase security for residents, public employees, city staff and elected officials.

Options under consideration include expanded use of metal detectors for meetings at City Hall. These detectors have been used for the Hazelwood
Municipal Court for several years.

Tom Schneider is new Florissant Council president

“It looks like it’s going to be an interesting year,” said new Council President Tom Schneider at the end of his first meeting as president. Councilman Andrew Podleski had just spoken about the election for council president.

Florissant Valley Historical Society Celebrating 50th Year Throughout ’08

The Florissant Valley Historical Society is celebrating 50 years of preserving Florissant’s history with a year of celebrations and events including this Saturday’s annual house tour.

Mary Kay Gladbach, who has been active in the historical society since it started, said that the group began the celebration with a Bouillon in January, and will continue with events throughout the year.
