The Marching Wildcats of Hazelwood West High School are performing in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade in Chicago. The parade, in its 75th year, will be broadcast nationally on Superstation WGN beginning at 9 a.m. CST on Thursday, Nov. 27. The Wildcats were selected to participate after submitting an application with a video performance; 24 marching bands from across the U.S. will be in the parade. Traveling by bus, the band will leave for Chicago on November 26 and return November 28.

Movie review: “Quantum of Solace”

You’ll be shaken, but not stirred by the new James Bond film, “Quantum of Solace.” Author Ian Fleming’s short story title is enigmatic; as is 007 (Daniel Craig), who returns from the action of “Casino Royale” haunted by the death of his ladylove, Vesper, and by the need for vengeance.

Conditions Perfect For Ozark Mountain Christmas in Branson

Normally our early November trip to Branson for the Ozark Mountain Christmas press weekend has warm weather and the fall foliage is still brilliant with color. Not this year, with temperatures in the 30s, Christmas seemed nearer than ever before— especially as we walked through the sparkling light displays of Silver Dollar City where, no matter what the weather, will get you into the holiday mood.

McCluer North, Trinity Catholic Boys Soccer Teams State Semifinal Bound

What does McCluer North Boys Soccer and Trinity Catholic Athletic Director/Head Soccer Coach Vince Drake have in common?
The Year was 1975. In March, 1975 McCluer North won its first and, so far, only state soccer title, the last year the sport was played in the winter and the second consecutive year a Suburban North Conference team won state boys soccer (Normandy, which no longer fields a team and now is in the Suburban East Conference, won the year before). In November, 1975, the first year the sport played in the fall, Drake coached St. Thomas Aquinas to the first of 11 state titles, nine after Aquinas merged with Mercy.
