New Board, Lillie Dumas’09 President, Announced By North County, Inc.

North St. Louis County-North County Incorporated’s Board of Directors has elected Lillie Dumas as president for 2009. This is a one-year term which began Jan. 1, 2009.

Dumas succeeded Mark Tranel, Ph.D., who served as North County Incorporated’s president in 2007 and 2008. “I look forward to working with the NCI Board of Directors as we maneuver through the challenging days ahead of us, and to assist in focusing our efforts in areas of critical concern to both the region and the organization,” said NCI President Lillie Dumas.

Lillie Dumas is vice president and branch manager with Commerce Bank. She has worked in the banking industry for 28 years and currently focuses on assisting small business owners with the necessary funding to support their business needs. She is a resident of Florissant, where she has lived with her family for the past 26 years.

3 Hazelwood Businesses Plan Large Expansions

Three businesses are expanding in Hazelwood. Representatives from all three came before the Hazelwood City Council last week to explain their plans for expansion in public hearings.

Mexican food lovers will be happy to hear that Pueblo Nuevo is expanding. Andres Morales, representing the restaurant, explained that the restaurant was expanding into the space next door. Construction is already underway, Morales said.

Florissant OKs Law On Prohibiting Graffiti, Alters Trash Service Bill

The Florissant City Council passed a bill prohibiting graffiti and authorizing a portion of the fines collected from the perpetrators to go to any person turning them in.

Catholic Schools Week Celebrated Week of Jan. 25

The following events have been scheduled at local Catholic Schools in North County.

St. Ferdinand has scheduled the following events during Catholic Schools Week:

• Saturday – Open house to coincide with the Spaghetti Dinner (this event was originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 25) Classrooms will be open from 6-7:30 p.m.
• Monday – Teacher Appreciation Day. Home and School will sponsor a special luncheon for the faculty. Seventh grade vs. Eighth grade Knock Out Game
•Tuesday – Student Appreciation Day. Dress out of uniform. Student Talent Show.
•Wednesday – Student Council Mission Carnival
•Thursday – Eighth graders will travel to St. Sabina for a Region Mass. Students will have lunch with their Teams.
•Friday – Gather in Teams and attend Mass. Following Mass there will be a special treat sponsored by the Student Council.

Hazelwood Names 2 Elementary, 1 Middle School Principals

The Hazelwood Board of Education recently appointed three administrators to key positions in the District for the 2009-2010 school year, effective July 1.

The district has hired Kamina Hunter to serve as the principal of Grannemann Elementary School. David Wood, who has served as interim principal, will retire at the end of this school year. Lynnette Jackson, who has served as the interim principal this school year at Arrowpoint Elementary School, has been named principal of Arrowpoint Elementary. In addition, Willicia Hobbs, who has served as the interim principal at Hazelwood Northwest Middle School for the 2008-2009 school year, has been named principal of Hazelwood Northwest Middle School. Hunter has more than 12 years educational experience and comes to Hazelwood from Springfield, Ill. She has served as a teacher, assistant principal and elementary school principal. Most recently, she has served as the director of an alternative program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, elementary education certification and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
