Eating Well Gets Easier In Ferguson

With obesity on the rise and belts fitting a little tighter after the holidays, Ferguson restaurants are making it easier for their diners to keep their New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier. Eat Well Ferguson is a program created by the Live Well Ferguson initiative and local restaurants that works to offer healthier food choices. Participating restaurants identify the healthy meal choices on their menus and display an Eat Well Ferguson sticker on their front window to let diners know that they will have healthy options inside.

2nd caboose now at Ferguson Bank location

The Louisville & Nashville caboose has moved to a location at UMB Bank on S. Florissant Road in Ferguson. The location also includes a Great Northern Railroad caboose. The site change was dedicated last week. Polans call for refurbishing both cabooses and reopening them.

The Best of Times Returning For Downtown Ferguson

That opening line from Charles Dickens’s “Tale of Two Cities” could apply to the fortunes of downtown Ferguson since its early beginnings as a burgeoning suburb of shops and upscale homes after Charles Ferguson sold some of his farmland with the promise of locating a Wabash rail station in the early 1850s. The commercial and residential growth was steady until a fire in 1895 gutted the business district.

The Ferguson-Florissant School District offers flu shots

The Ferguson-Florissant School District, in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis, is offering flu shots on Friday, Sept. 30. Anyone who is interested can receive the vaccines from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Staff Develop Area of Building B, which is located in the district’s Administration Center, at 1005 Waterford Drive in Florissant.

Christian Care Home to Celebrate 100th Anniversary

Christian Care Home in Ferguson will celebrate 100 years of serving the elderly in North County with a reception on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1-4 p.m.

The Christian Woman’s Benevolent Association expanded its ministries to providing appropriate facilities for the elderly in 1911. In 1903, the association organized Christian Hospital.

Former Ferguson Mayor Brian Fletcher Named to Ferguson-Florissant Board

Brian Fletcher as voted unanimously to be appointed a director of the Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education. He was sworn at the last board meeting

The Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Board of Education has filled the vacant director position on its board with the appointment of Brian Fletcher, the former mayor of Ferguson. Fletcher assumed the duties of director and was sworn-in July 13. His term will expire in April 2012.
