2012 Valley of Flowers To Celebrate 50 Years of Festivals

The Valley of Flowers Festival began in 1963 as an attempt by local merchants to promote civic beautification in the City of Florissant. Since that time the festival has grown to include dozens of events including a parade and queen crowning. The first festival of spring will be celebrated this year on May 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6^th.

Valley of Flowers Seeks 2012 Queen Candidates; Also Past Festival Queens

Applications for Valley of Flowers queen candidates are now available from the Valley of Flowers office, 601 rue St. Charles. Candidates must be 16 years of age by April 30, a junior in high school, and a resident of Florissant. Sponsors do not need to be located in the city.

St. Ferdinand Shrine Benefit Held at Kemoll’s Downtown

Supporters of the St. Ferdinand Shrine gathered at Kemoll’s Restaurant in the top floor of the Metropolitan Building on Sunday, Jan. 29 to raise funds to benefit the Friends of Old St. Ferdinand.

Charter Changes will be on April 3 Ballot in Florissant

The Florissant City Council took steps to change some items in the city charter, and also changed the ordinance regarding boards and commissions.

The changes to the charter will be voted on by residents in the April 3rd election. Councilman Mark Schmidt explained the changes.

Restaurant, Chickens and a Duck On the Florissant Council Agenda

The Florissant City Council held a public hearing for a restaurant at 12675 New Halls Ferry, last week. Old Tymers Carry-out Kitchen, would be strictly carry-out, said Steven Sloan, the owner. It would be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and stay open until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Florissant Doesn’t Want to be Like ‘We Bought a Zoo’ Film

The Florissant City Council spend some time at their executive session last week to discuss changing the permit process for unusual animals in the city. In the last several months, the council has had requests from residents for permits to keep a fox, a pig, a duck, and several chickens.

Panda Express 1st Named Business Coming to Site At Value City Location

The Florissant City Council passed an ordinance allowing additional retail establishments at the former Value City site near Target. National Retail Properties, the owner of the site, previously came before the council with plans to redevelop the property.
