Hazelwood Central Middle School Student Wants Future on the Stage

Christopher Cross, a seventh-grade student at Hazelwood Central Middle School, is poised, well-spoken and good-natured. He seems much older than his age would suggest, especially while talking about his role as Billy Ray Jr. in the Black Rep production of “On Golden Pond.”

The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education will take time to honor the accomplishments of students and staff at its 7 p.m. monthly board meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Honorees’ names will be read, and they will be applauded as they walk forward to receive certificates of appreciation and pats-on-the back from board members.

Brown Elementary Principal Matt Phillips awarded SSD Award

Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD) selected Matt Phillips, principal at Brown Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District, as a 2012 Special Ambassador Award recipient. It is the highest recognition bestowed by SSD and it honors those who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to SSD students and/or staff.

Parents Serve as Panther Prowlers at H’wood North Middle to Support Students

Hazelwood North Middle School takes parent involvement up a notch with its Panther Prowlers program. Named for the school’s mascot, parent volunteers team with staff members to make sure the students follow the rules and the school operates smoothly.

Learn techniques for stimulating and bonding with your baby on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the James J. Eagan Center, Room A, #1 James J. Eagan Drive, Florissant. Bring a blanket for your infant to lie on. Expectant mothers are welcome (bring a doll). Susan Rockow, a certified Parent Educator and Infant Massage Expert, will present and answer questions. The session is sponsored by the Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Parents as Teachers program.

The district has been defending itself against accusations made by the NAACP regarding their procurement policy for workers.

Catholic Schools Invite Community To Open Houses at North County Schools
