Eagles 18 Baseball On Top Of SLABA 18 Standings Heading To Postseason

The St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association’s Eagles 18 team, known by many as American National and plays their home games at Hazelwood Sports Complex and Lutheran High School North, continues to be on top of SLABA 18 standings, perhaps might have clinched first place as of July 14.

Postseason playoffs and tournaments are to start before, on or after The Independent News hits the streets on July 18. Dates times, site(s) and opponents were not determined as of July 14.

The Eagles 18 team carries a 25-15 record including a 14-4 SLABA 18 record to the playoffs. Since June 25 and through July 13 the Eagles 18 have won seven and lost seven including a 3-1 mark in SLABA 18.

The Eagles 18 might have lost Oday Alyatim, who was reported to have suffered a broken hand. Alyatim was batting .451with 12 runs scored, had 41 hits including eight triples and four home runs, and driven in 39 runs. Alyatim also has 107 put outs in the field.

Shane Hartwig has scored 23 runs on 29 hits and has been hit by pitch 15 times. Jack Adler has scored 21 runs and driven in 20 on 36 hits including 15 doubles and 12 walks. Joe Shell has 12 walks while Tanner Branneky walked 12 times. In fielding Adler has 141 putouts while Shell has 44 assists.

Conner Buenger is one of the top pitchers with at least five complete games in seven starts, a 5-1 record with a 1.40 earned run average and 47 strikeouts. Hartwig also has standout pitching numbers including a 5-3 record in eight starts; three complete games, a 2.40 ERA and 48 strikeouts. Alex Grupas has nine starts; five complete games, a 6-2 record, a 2.75 ERA and 45 strikeouts.

EAGLES 15 – Two weeks ago the Eagles 15 team was reported to lead SLABA 15 with a 16-9 record, 8-1 in SLABA 15 as of June 25. When the last article hit the streets the Eagles 15 fell out of first place and from June 27 to July 12 the Eagles 15 won only three while losing nine not including the July 10 game against the Tigers 15 Black, score not reported. As of July 13 the Eagles 15 were fifth in SLABA 15 with a 10-7 record, 19-18 overall.

Matt Mellring is batting .423 with 47 hits including 14 doubles and 39 RBIs. Neil Lee has scored 42 runs on 47 hits including seven triples and four home runs. Justin Porter has walked 23 times while Jesse Repp has stolen 21 bases without being caught.

In fielding Austin Huls has 173 put outs while Repp has 54 assists. Connor Burnett has a 6-4 record in 10 starts including five complete games, a 3.44 ERA and 52 strikeouts. Repp is 4-2 with 39 strikeouts while Mellring has 30 strikeouts.

EAGLES 16 – Through July 9 the Eagles 16 was seventh in SLABA 16 with a 6-9 record and was 12-18 overall. In the last 12 games the Eagles 16 team has won seven including six of their last seven.

Mike Puckett has scored 27 runs on 40 hits including nine doubles and has 22 RBIs. Adam Frank has walked 14 times while Keiland Outlaw has stolen 11 bases in 13 attempts. Hunter Wood has 42 put outs while Puckett has 28 assists and 38 strikeouts as a pitcher.

AMERICAN LEGION-FLORISSANT JUNIORS — Unofficially the Florissant Junior American Legion team finished with an 8-7 record including an 8-3 record in District 10. The record does not include the June 26 game against Manchester, possibly not played or rained out. The Florissant Junior legion team ended the season with losses in the District 10 tournament to Creve Coeur and Ballwin, each by an identical 4-2 score.

FLORISSANT SENIORS — Prior to July 13 the Florissant Senior American Legion team was 5-8 overall and in District 10 and the record does not include the July 3 game against Lemay, score not available, and the result of the July 13 game against Creve Coeur was also unavailable. The Senior District 10 Tournament is slated to take place this week.
