Ferguson Twilight Run Hosts Free Race Training Programs

With the help of volunteers and supporters, Ferguson Twilight Run has free race training for the 5K and 10K distances.

The fourth annual Ferguson Twilight Run/Walk is Saturday, May 18. The race includes one-mile, 5K and 10K distances. The race is formerly known as LiveWell Ferguson Twilight 5K Run/Walk.

The Ferguson Running Club meets on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. in the winter months. The club is free and geared toward intermediate or advanced runners who want to train for the 10K distance. Training includes 2 to 6-mile runs, interval and hill workouts. The runs begin in January Wabash Memorial Park, located at 501 N. Florissant Road. For more information about the Ferguson Running Club, contact Blue Tapp Scheffer at blue@bluetapp.com

A Couch to 5K training program begins March 18. It is free to anyone interested in training for the 5K race. It is geared for beginning runners or those working to get back into shape. The nine-week sessions are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Workouts include a warm up, cool down and stretches, and each session is under an hour. The Ferguson Twilight Run is a USATF certified course. The races start and finish at Plaza at 501, an outdoor entertainment area at the intersection of Florissant Road and Suburban Avenue. Ferguson Twilight includes post-race festivities such as a free live concert, vendors and specials at local restaurants. It’s the only evening race in North St. Louis County.

Race fees are $20 for the 5K and 10K for early registrants. The race fee for the One-Mile Fun Run is $10. Special rates are offered to teams of 10 or more. Awards and prizes are presented to top finishers. The course is timed by Big River Running.
