Hazelwood West High Marching Band Invited to 2011 Alamo Bowl

Bowl Games of America selected the Marching Wildcats of Hazelwood West High School to participate as a featured performer in the 2011 Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. The annual bowl game hosts football teams from the Big 10 and Big 12 conferences.

The band is led by Aaron Jackson and consists of more than 100 students from the communities of Florissant, Hazelwood, Bridgeton and Berkeley. The Marching Wildcats will perform during half-time with participating bands invited to the event for “musical excellence and community support.”

“This is a wonderful honor and a credit to each member of the Hazelwood West Marching Band,” said Jackson. “The band is a disciplined, hard-working unit. More importantly, the members are among the finest young people with whom I’ve ever been associated, and we’re very excited for them to be able to take part in this fantastic event.”

Gretchen Bangert, executive director of the Marching Wildcats Booster Organization, said the group has “one goal in mind” to “raise the funds to help pay the hotel and transportation costs of the members of the band.”

The band will hold several fundraisers this year, including mouse races, a golf tournament, trivia night, pizza sales and more.

“We are fortunate to have a great group of parents, students and friends working together to raise funds to send all members of the band to San Antonio,” said Bangert.
