Mayors Schneider, Robinson, Knowles Tour Storm Area with Governor

Mayor  Tom Schneider joined Gov. Jay Nixon, Hazelwood Mayor Matt Robinson, St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, Ferguson Mayor Knowles and Ameren CEO Baxter  Thursday to inspect damage created by the tornado that hit the area  April 10

The Governor and County Executive applauded the joint efforts by Florissant, Hazelwood and Ferguson forces in assisting Hazelwood and Florissant residents affected by the storm and pledged disaster relief.

Ameren CEO Baxter promised that Ameren will work around the clock until all power has been restored and a priority will be made to restore power to all traffic signals.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid Howdershell Road in the city limits of Hazelwood as much of possible because of the concentration of damage in that area.

Homeowners are encouraged to avoid being a victim for a second time as a result of hiring an unscrupulous private contractor to do tree removal and home repair. Avoid storm chasers who want cash up front before doing the work and never return. Use reputable contractors who include removal of down vegetation and or damage dwelling or auto debris.

Meridian Waste patrons that are up to date with their payment may gather and put into bundles tree limbs to be picked up.  Vegetation must be bagged or placed in yard waste containers, and the tree limbs can be bundled and cut into 4 foot pieces. Meridian is unable to accept limbs more than 4 inches in diameter.

Starting on Saturday, April 13, Meridian will begin to remove the debris in the areas that were hit hardest by the storm. All other areas will have this service on their next yard waste day. The removal of vegetation and construction debris is a significant challenge and your patience will be appreciated.

Florissant Health Department along with volunteers has been making contact by phone or visiting the homes of Senior Citizens to check their well-being and we have had several requests for assistance.
