Neil Simon’s ‘Biloxi Blues’ At Civic Center on April 4

Soldiers from the Neil Simon hit Biloxi Blues, based on their recruit training experiences in Mississippi in 1943.

Montana Rep  will present Biloxi Blues at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre for one  night only Thursday, April 4, 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $27 for adults and $25 for seniors and  students. This performance is part of the Florissant Fine Arts Council’s Applause/Applause  series of professional national and international touring companies.

Neil Simon’s hit play follows the adventures of Eugene Morris Jerome and his fellow Army inductees as they struggle through basic training near Biloxi, Mississippi in 1943.  An aspiring  writer who sees himself as an outsider observing the craziness around him, Eugene hopes to  somehow remain “neutral….like Switzerland.”

He spends most of his free time recounting  conversations and impressions in his journal, feeling a little ashamed for betraying the “secret  and private thoughts” of his fellow soldiers. The men are universal soldiers facing the same fears,  anxieties, and loneliness that grip all young recruits about to encounter the ultimate test of  combat.

Simon brings his great sense of humor and humanity to every word of this  magnificent play.  The national tour of the Montana Repertory company brings to the audience  the best of the American theatre tradition They  dedicate this  production of Biloxi Blues to the men and women in our military ranks who help to protect and defend the American Dream.

Tickets are $27 for adults and $25 for seniors and  students. This performance is part of the Florissant Fine Arts Council’s Applause/Applause  series of professional national and international touring companies. Shows in this series range  from Off-Broadway to off the continent, from tender drama to  comedy.
