North County Inc. Honors Community Leaders Making a Difference in No. County
As part of the organization’s 40th Annual Leadership Breakfast celebration, North County Incorporated (NCI) will recognize several area leaders for making a significant positive impact in North County. The event will be held on Friday, May 19 from 7:30.-9:30 a.m. at the Marriott St. Louis Airport. More than 600 business, civic, and community leaders will gather to honor the recipients.
The Elmer Belsha Leadership Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a long-term commitment to NCI and North County, and has had a positive impact on the community. This year’s Elmer Belsha Leadership Award honoree is Bob Lindsey, editor-publisher of The Independent News. The community newspaper is celebrating its 30th year in 2017.
Business Development Awards are presented to those whose efforts have positively affected the economic development and business climate of the North County area. NCI’s 2017 Business Development Awards will be presented to Mike Becker, partner, Suburban Heights Apartments, The Orthopedic Center at SSM Health DePaul Hospital, The Boeing Company’s 777x Wing Assembly Manufacturing Plant, and Trans-Lux Corporation.
Community Development Awards are presented to those whose efforts positively benefit youth, residents, civic organizations, or others, through selfless acts. This year’s Community Development Awards will be presented to Sister Helen Negri, chief executive officer, Marygrove, Clayco’s Community Development Initiative, Marlon Wharton, counselor, Riverview Gardens School District and Gentlemen of Vision, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, under the leadership of Chancellor Thomas George.
The Excellence in Partnership with NCI Award is given to organizations or companies that have partnered with NCI to make a significant impact on the North County community for the betterment of the area’s quality of life through special initiatives and/or projects. This year’s award recipient is the Community Health Access Program. NCI partners include: Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, Christian Hospital, and SSM Health DePaul Hospital.
Public Service Awards are presented to outstanding individuals, elected, appointed, or employed by a public body whose long-time service has had a positive impact on the community and/or public body they serve. Honorees this year are Bob Laramie, superintendent of parks, City of Florissant, retired chief Terry Loehrer, Pattonville Fire Protection District, and Patrick McSheehy, code administrator, City of Hazelwood.
Special Recognition Awards are presented to individuals or organizations that have made a significant impact on the communities and citizens of North County. The 2017 honorees are Joshura Davis, owner, Best Insurance Agency and President of Dellwood-Ferguson West Florissant Business Association, Terry Freeman, professor of engineering and science, St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.

North County Incorporated is a regional development organization, which acts as a catalyst to define and advocate economic and community development for North St. Louis County.
