Sacred Heart Class of 1941 Holds 70th Reunion
Six members of the Sacred Heart Grade School Class of 1941 got together for their 70th reunion recently.
Irma Korte remembered her days at the school. In first and second grade, she said, and again in seventh and eighth, the students were in the convent building. The other grades were in what is now the Kindergarten and pre-school.
In seventh and eighth grade, the boys and girls were separated. “We only saw the boys at church,” Korte said. The rest of the day, they were taught in separate rooms.
One other big difference, Korte said, was the faculty. “All the teachers were nuns,” she said, “plus there were two nuns who cooked.” There were also two priests at the parish at the time.
Out of the class of 38, 14 members are still living. The six at the reunion all live in the St. Louis area.
The class members at the reunion have fond memories of their days at Sacred Heart. Although Korte has moved to another parish in the area, she said, “my heart is still there.”
