St. Ferdinand Shrine Seeks Donations for New Furnace

The heating unit at Old St. Ferdinand Shrine is no longer operational and must be replaced as soon as possible. Friends of Old St. Ferdinand Shrine estimate the cost to be $35,000-$40,000. The organization is seeking donations from the community to maintain this Florissant treasure.

Tax-deductible donations are greatly needed. If the heating unit is not replaced soon, the building risks plumbing failures and other extensive damage.

The original church was named in honor of St. Ferdinand III, 1199-1252, by the Spanish government and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1789.

In 1819, under the supervision of Mother Duchesne, a convent was constructed on the grounds of what is now known as the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine. Construction of the church commended in 1820, followed by the rectory in 1844. All three structures have been faithfully preserved by donors and volunteers.
