Update on Ferguson-Florisssant, McCoy inquiry

Attendance Data from August, 2012 is Center of State Inquiry for F-F District

The results of a state inquirysought by the Ferguson-Florissant School Board revealed that some attendance data for the school district had been changed in August, 2012 to increase the students attendance figures. But no one was named for changing those numbers.  The district received a letter from the state that showed the attendance discrepancies from data on Aug.6, 2012. State officials will work with the district to fix the attendance figures.

The school board met last Friday in closed session, but no decisions were made as results of the inquiry thatthe board had sought from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The state will make data corrections andrecalculations, which could lead to a loss of $80,000

The school board asked for the inquiry following the placement of popular Supt. Art McCoy on paid administrative leave. A firestorm developed with  public support for McCoy when the vast majority of speakers at a packed board meeting came out with words of support and praise for McCoy.

When the board by a 6-1 vote placed McCoy on administrative leave, one of the reasons prominently mentioned was a” differences in focus and philosophy”

Other developments reported within the past week include:

• Former school board memberChuck Henson contends that board president Paul Morris had urged him and other board members not to vote for  McCoy as superintendent.

• McCoy openly has supportedschool transfers from nearby Riverview and Normandy schools and the district has spent an additional $400,000 to add 15 teachers and teacher assistants to handle 430 transfers.

•  The school board is continuing its investigation after no decisions were announced after it’s meeting last Friday on McCoy’s future with the district.                -Bob Lindsey
